ABOUT US

In April 2020, a small group of local residents began to meet weekly to discuss the possibility of starting a food cooperative (co-op) in Chenango County. A food co-op is defined as a food distribution outlet organized as a cooperative, rather than a private or public company. In a food co-op, decisions regarding the purchase and distribution of food are made by its members.

The Chenango Family Food Co-op will seek out locally and regionally sourced high quality & unique bulk foods, with the aim to support local/regional farmers, producers, processors and suppliers while also making them available at fair and competitive prices,

We purchase food from suppliers within our defined area to encourage regional resilience, defining local/regional as 500 miles.

If you're among those of us who feel that supporting local farmers, producers, processors and suppliers is more important now than it ever had been, we hope you will join us during this trial run, as we gauge the viability of launching a formal food co-op in 2021.
